rousing from her dreamless sleep, the first thing swiftfoot noticed was the distinct, airy scent of morning, the early dawn breeze carrying the sharp tinge of the moors wafting through camp. dawn painted the sky a rosy pink, soft rays of sunlight dripping like honey onto Windclan territory. with a short yawn and an arching stretch, the deputy rose to her paws and cast a critical gaze around her clanmates. although the sun had barely yet to rise fully above the horizon, the earlier they scouted the borders for intruders the better.
swiftfoot slept rather far away from her clanmates, near the very barren edges of camp. for as long as she'd been a warrior, she still couldn't get used to being smothered by warm pelts and familiar, comforting scents as she slept. no, the cold air of loneliness was much more preferable to this rough fae.
She stepped over a few sleeping cats, not caring if she trotted on any tails. the early bird got the worm - or the early cat caught the rabbit, as the saying went. It was time for the windclan border patrol, and she desperately wanted to make sure that other clans were keeping themselves in check. not that tensions had been particularly high as of late, though it never hurt to be on guard. in all her moons of serving windclan, swiftfoot had learned many lessons, though none more strongly than the true tepidity of even the firmest of alliances. it was every clan for themselves; none could be trusted, even in times as lush and sweet as these.
but there was also another reason for her burning eagerness to scout and mark their borders. it was no secret that recently they had happened upon...slight troubles with wandering rogues. shadowclan also shared these issues, though they seemed to be catching the full brunt of it. a neutral alliance had recently been forged between redstar and rosestar; swiftfoot was rather lukewarm on the deal herself, though she wouldn't dare argue with the finalized decision of her leader. Shadowclan were as trustworthy as foxes, but perhaps allies couldn't hurt. it was still something she find herself having trouble getting used to, if she were being honest, but complex politics seemed to be as natural and integrated into clan society as the warriors were.
"wake up," came her sharp meow, eyes roaming over sleeping warriors and apprentices. "we've work to do." she didn't exactly care who accompanied her, only that the job got done fast. the sooner they'd checked around and been thorough then the sooner they could return home, and report the news to the clan. "come on, don't make me say it twice! pull your butts up and get moving! you know how i hate repeating myself."
